Symptoms of Stump Failures:
TIMBER STUMPS
- Gaps between bearer and top of stump
- Vertical cracks in timber stumps
- Decay and Rot at bottom of timber stump
- Tapping with hammer and a hollow sound variance between top and bottom of
stump and movement
CONCRETE STUMPS
- Gaps between bearer and top of stump
- Cracks, exposed rusted steel bar
- Concrete pieces falling off stump
STEEL POSTS
- Rust and holes at bottom of stump (usually indicating inadequate steel being
used and not finished correctly)
- Surface cracks and exposed stump footings
LEVELS
- Doors and windows jamming
- Locks and bolts difficult to engage
- Diagonal wall cracks
- Internal paint tearing or blistering
- Floor movement and rattling furniture
- Uneven floors
